The New Mercedes-AMG® GLC 53 4MATIC®+: Six-Cylinder Power Meets Dynamic Precision

At its core lies a comprehensively redeveloped 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine featuring twin charging via an exhaust-gas turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor. Producing 330 kW (449 hp) and 600 Nm of torque — with up to 640 Nm available for 10 seconds in overboost — the GLC 53 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds with RACE START. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, or 270 km/h with the optional AMG® Driver’s Package.

A Six-Cylinder with Even Sharper Character

The updated inline-six engine benefits from a new cylinder head with optimized intake and exhaust ports, a revised intake camshaft, a larger-volume intake system, and a new intercooler. Boost pressure of 1.5 bar from the enhanced turbocharger ensures strong torque delivery and impressive high-rev performance.

The electric auxiliary compressor now operates almost continuously, delivering up to 7.5 kW of electrical power for sharper throttle response. The extended torque plateau ensures powerful acceleration across the rev range, while AMG®’s signature exhaust system — complete with resonators and optional AMG® Real Performance Sound — delivers crackles on throttle lift-off, bass-heavy acceleration notes, and emotional misfires depending on the selected drive mode.

Supporting performance is the second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG) within the 48-volt electrical system. It provides up to 17 kW of boost and 205 Nm of torque, while enabling recuperation, gliding, load point shifting, and nearly imperceptible engine restarts.

Precision Shifting and Adaptive Character

The six-cylinder pairs with the AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® TCT 9G transmission, offering rapid gear changes, double-declutching, multiple downshifts, and manual control via steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. In “Sport+” and manual modes, the transmission reacts with heightened immediacy, while still allowing efficient cruising in more relaxed settings.

Drivers can tailor the vehicle’s personality through AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT, choosing from “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” and “Individual.” With the AMG® DYNAMIC PLUS Package, a “RACE” mode is added for maximum performance focus. The AMG® DYNAMICS system further refines handling behavior in “Basic,” “Advanced,” and “Pro” settings by adjusting ESP® and torque distribution strategies.

Fully Variable All-Wheel Drive with Drift Mode

The fully variable AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive system comes standard, seamlessly distributing power between axles for optimal traction and safety in all conditions. In moderate driving, the front axle can be completely decoupled to increase efficiency.

For the first time in an AMG® SUV, an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential with Drift Mode is available. When activated (as part of the AMG® DYNAMIC PLUS Package), the GLC 53 operates as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle across the entire speed range — designed for experienced drivers on closed tracks seeking maximum dynamic freedom.

The enhanced drivetrain also increases braked towing capacity to 2,400 kg, highlighting the vehicle’s versatility beyond pure performance.

Chassis, Steering, and Braking: Dynamic Control in Every Situation

The AMG® RIDE CONTROL suspension, developed in Affalterbach, features adaptive damping with separate rebound and compression control. Drivers can choose between “Comfort,” “Sport,” and “Sport+” settings, delivering a broad range from long-distance comfort to sharp, responsive handling.

High-performance braking components include 390 mm front discs with four-piston fixed calipers and 360 mm rear discs, ensuring confident stopping power.

Three-stage AMG® parameter steering adjusts effort and feedback depending on the selected drive mode. Standard rear-axle steering enhances agility at lower speeds by turning opposite the front wheels (up to 2.5 degrees) and improves stability at higher speeds by steering in parallel (up to 0.7 degrees).
