The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA: A First Taste of What’s to Come

In a bold pivot back toward elegance, Mercedes-Benz’s all-new 2026 CLA signals a clear departure from the abstract styling of its EQS and EQE models. The compact four-door returns to signature design cues—longer hood, refined body lines—while introducing new illuminated details: a radiant Mercedes star set in a constellation of 142 smaller stars graces the grille, echoed in the lighting elements both front and rear

A Modern Redesign

The cabin and platform receive a thoughtful expansion: the car is roughly an inch longer, slightly wider, and higher, and boasts a two-inch longer wheelbase for improved interior feel. Despite its compact footprint, the trunk offers enough space for two suitcases, with an added frunk upfront to handle carry-ons.

Step inside, and the CLA feels premium. The AMG® Line trim brings sportier accents like a high rear spoiler and optional 19-inch wheels. Interiors include bold two-tone schemes, stitching in red, soft-touch materials, and vinyl headliners. Amenities such as wireless charging, USB outlets (including for rear-seat passengers), cupholders, and thoughtful chrome touches reinforce its upscale remit. Rear seat space is cozy but functional, although window operation is limited—air vents help compensate.

Mercedes equips the CLA with its expansive Superscreen, spanning the entire dashboard: a 10.3-inch driver display, 14-inch infotainment, and optional 14-inch passenger display behind glass. Eye-tracking tech dims the passenger view if detected as a distraction. The system runs on the all-new MB.OS with fourth-generation MBUX that integrates AI from Google and Microsoft, complete with advanced visualizations of nearby traffic and road users

Hardware & Driving Dynamics

A rare EV feature: a two-speed gearbox on the rear drive unit enhances efficiency across speeds. The front motor uses a single speed and can disconnect during cruising to save energy. Regenerative braking offers five levels of tuning. Drive impressions confirm a responsive RWD feel, and while the AWD version brings extra thrust, it feels noticeably heavier. The chassis remains refined, even under snowy conditions.

The CLA inherits Mercedes-Benz’s new MB.DRIVE suite, encompassing Drive Assist, Drive Assist Pro, and Drive Parking Assist systems. Notably, Drive Assist Pro delivers near-Level 3 autonomy in urban driving environments, capable of navigating traffic, roundabouts, and intersections with AI-enhanced perception—U.S. availability slated for 2026. A first-in-class center airbag between driver and passenger enhances side-impact safety.

The Future Arrives Soon

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA represents a crucial juncture for the brand: the launch of its first software-defined vehicle built on a flexible EV-first architecture. From star-lit lighting to the expansive Superscreen and advanced MB.OS infotainment, it marries luxury with thoughtful tech. Its efficient electric and hybrid powertrains deliver strong range, fast charging, and engaging dynamics, while advanced driver assistance marks a push toward autonomy. As an introduction to modern Mercedes, the CLA promises to be intelligent, elegant, and forward-looking. The EVs launch in Europe this summer and reach the U.S. in the fall. Pricing has not been announced. The hybrid follows at the end of 2025 in Europe and in 2026 for North America. The hybrid is expected to be the volume model in the U.S. Still to come: an electric-only AMG® version of the new CLA.
