2025 Mercedes-AMG® CLE 53 Cabriolet …

Another day, another AMG®. Just weeks after we slid behind the wheel of the 2025 Mercedes-AMG® CLE 53 coupe for the first time comes the inevitable reveal of a soft-top version. Meet the 2025 Mercedes-AMG® CLE 53 Cabriolet.  The 443-hp, 413-lb-ft (443 lb-ft for 10 seconds in overboost) turbocharged and electrically supercharged 3.0-liter straight-six under the hood. The mild hybrid powertrain drives all four wheels through AMG®’s Speedshift nine-speed transmission and 4MATIC®+ all-wheel-drive system. Rear-wheel steering is standard, the wheels able to turn to a maximum of 2.5 degrees in the opposite direction to the fronts below 60 mph to improve agility, and up to 0.7 degree in the same direction as the fronts to improve stability over 60 mph. What makes the CLE 53 Cabriolet significant is that it joins the Mercedes-AMG® SL to become the second open-top car in the current Mercedes lineup to be worked over by the three-pointed star’s in-house performance division.

Attention to Details…

The Mercedes-AMG® CLE 53 does have some clever detail touches. Like an optional leather trim with an infrared-reflecting coating that can reduce its surface temperature by as much as 53 degrees in direct sunlight. Or the central touchscreen that, as in the SL roadster, can be tilted more vertically to reduce reflections when you’re driving with the roof down. Speaking of which, the sound-insulated soft-top, which is available in black, gray, or red, opens and closes in just 20 seconds and can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 37 mph.

0-60 MPH Times

The performance numbers tell the story: Mercedes claims a 0–60-mph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds for the CLE 53 Cabriolet—4.1 seconds if you order the optional AMG® Dynamic Plus package that includes launch control and a Drift mode.

Differences Between the Coupe & Cabriolet

Damping and spring rates of the standard AMG® Ride Control suspension have also been softened compared with the coupe. “We wanted to have a good car in terms of cruising,” says Lukas Mathe, engineering project leader. In the default Comfort drive mode setting, the AMG® 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive system also automatically decouples the front axle under light throttle conditions to improve fuel economy. Of course, the CLE 53 Cabriolet comes with the full arsenal of AMG® performance drive modes and AMG®’s Dynamic Select system that offers three settings that progressively loosen up the stability control while sending more torque to the rear wheels.

AMG® Muscle Activated

Those who want their CLE 53 Cabriolets to stand out a little more can order the optional AMG® Performance Studio package, which adds flics on the front and rear bumpers, a high-gloss black spoiler lip on the trunklid, and a rear diffuser panel between the tailpipes. Two AMG® Night packages are available, the second adding additional elements such as a darkened radiator grille and high-gloss black badging on the trunk. AMG® Carbon Fiber packages are also available. The front and rear fenders have been teased out over 2.3-inch and 3.0-inch increases in the front and rear track, respectively. Standard wheels are 19 inches, with 20-inch items available as an option.
