Mercedes-Benz is developing an all-electric version of its popular GLC-Class SUV, but this is more than just a GLC with the gas engine swapped out. Dubbed “GLC with EQ Technology” (though more commonly referred to as the GLC Electric or GLC EV), it is built on a dedicated electric-vehicle platform and takes a distinct path from its gasoline and hybrid cousins.
Visually, the GLC EV is expected to retain styling cues from the traditional GLC — not adopting the more radical or futuristic look of Mercedes’ larger EQ models such as the EQE or EQS SUVs. Its exterior design aims to maintain familiarity, which may help ease the transition for buyers moving from gas-powered GLCs.
Inside, the vehicle is said to seat five and to include “all the latest Mercedes tech.” That means large screens for the dashboard and driver display, likely a screen in the center console, and even one for the front passenger. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are anticipated, USB-C ports in both rows of seats, possibly wireless charging pads, premium sound systems (likely Burmester), and a 360-degree camera system.

In terms of performance, Mercedes is planning multiple versions. The base model is expected to have a single motor mounted at the rear, producing slightly under 300 horsepower. For those wanting more power, there should be a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version making about 483 hp. And at the top of the line is expected to be an AMG® variant, raising the bar to something near 670 hp.
Range and charging are also key. The base battery is projected to offer around 230 miles of driving range, while upgraded battery packs should push that well past 350 miles on a full charge. Charging speeds may reach up to 320 kW, allowing fast-charge sessions that can add over 250 miles of range in approximately 15 minutes under ideal conditions.
One of the interesting perks of its electric design is more space. The wheelbase is confirmed to be about five inches longer than that of the standard GLC, which allows room for the underfloor battery pack and should yield more rear-seat legroom compared to the gas GLC 300 or GLC 350e. Cargo capacity details haven’t been published yet.

Mercedes is expected to include a full suite of modern driver-assist and safety features. Standard equipment should include things like front automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, side-traffic alert, automatic high-beams, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. On the more advanced side, there’s a possibility for Level 3 hands-off autonomous driving, enabled by a LIDAR sensor, allowing the car to control both steering and pedals under the right conditions.
As for timing and pricing, the GLC Electric is slated to arrive in late 2025 or early 2026 as a 2026 model. Expect its starting price to be slightly under $70,000, though tariffs and regional pricing could push that up. It’s poised to compete with other luxury EVs such as the Genesis GV60, Tesla Model Y, Cadillac Lyriq, and others.
